Her sire really shows his true Spanish heritage. He looks like a small Andalusian to me. Sharun Sluss of Rainbow's End Farm in Va. is the owner of over 30 Spanish Mustangs. These small horses were the foundation for todays Quarter horses.
There amazing athletic ability, intelligence and stamina enable them to participate in any discipline. They can range from 13 to 15 hands, depending on their individual heritage.
They should not be confused with the BLM (Bureau of Land Management) horses, although those horses have an abundance of the Spanish blood in them, as well as TB and other mixes that have been turned loose on the plains over the past 100+ years.
As I understand it, the horses are one of several breed types with the HOA, or Horse of the Americas and come under SMR or Spanish Mustang Registry and must carry the DNA and genetic markers to be eligible.
A lot of time and research has been devoted to the preservation of these horses that were so critical to the lives of both the native Americans and the settlers of this great land.
